IT Asset Disposition (ITAD)
Complete IT Asset Disposition Services
DS Services manages retired technology from the moment it comes off the rack or the desk through to the final documentation that closes the project out.
Retired technology is a project, not a pickup
Most organizations discover the size of an ITAD project halfway through it. Equipment is spread across floors, closets and storage rooms. Some of it holds regulated data. Some of it is still worth money. Finance wants an asset list, security wants certificates, and facilities wants the space back by the end of the month.
We take the whole thing. One team removes the equipment, records it, transports it under chain of custody, destroys the data, recycles it responsibly and hands back a documentation package that survives an audit — and where something carries significant residual value, we can bring in a qualified partner.
DS Services has been doing secure destruction and recycling in Massachusetts since 2005, and our destruction operation is NAID AAA Certified. ITAD is that same discipline applied to the full hardware lifecycle.
How an ITAD project runs
Assess, remove, account for, destroy, recover, recycle, document
- 01
Assess
Evaluate equipment, project requirements, security requirements and potential asset value.
- 02
Decommission
Disconnect and decommission technology in place — offices, server rooms, data centers, laboratories, medical and university facilities.
- 03
Remove
Safely remove, pack and load servers, racks, computers, networking equipment and other technology.
- 04
Secure Transport
Securely transport equipment while maintaining chain of custody.
- 05
Destroy Data
Destroy or sanitize sensitive data according to applicable requirements, with Certificates of Destruction.
- 06
Recycle
Responsibly recycle end-of-life electronics and technology.
- 07
Document
Provide applicable inventory reports, certificates and final project documentation.
Data-bearing devices
Anything that stored information is treated as sensitive until it has been destroyed or sanitized and documented — including the devices people forget about.
- Hard drives and SSDs
- Server and array storage
- Backup tapes and optical media
- Laptops, desktops and workstations
- Phones, tablets and thumb drives
- Copiers, printers and multifunction devices
Reporting you can file
The documentation is the part auditors ask for, sometimes years later. We agree the format up front so it matches how you track assets internally.
- Serialized inventory of applicable assets
- Certificates of destruction
- Recycling documentation
- Chain of custody records
- Settlement statements on recovered value
Equipment with residual value
We are not an asset management or resale company. Our focus is recycling, decommissioning, secure removal and data destruction. Where equipment carries significant residual value, we can work with qualified partners who specialize in that market.
- Data destroyed and documented first
- Qualified partners for high-value equipment
- Responsible recycling for everything else
- One project, one set of documentation
